I started this journal as a means of supplying friends and family in the US with my experiences in Argentina in 2005-2006. Since then I have continued it as a means of keeping up with friends, keeping relatives updated, and as an outlet for my various rantings regarding world events.
I'm a student at the University of Arizona, studying Spanish, Portuguese, and International Studies with a focus in Development and Applied Politics. I intend to start out working for the US government as a Foreign Service Officer somewhere in Latin America, or possibly Africa. My general long-term goal is to enhance and create development (economic and social) in Latin America through international organization and cooperation.
Part II: Interests
I LOVE hiking and generally spending my time outdoors in the mountains and canyons, or at the beach. I love frisbee and futbol (soccer) although I tend to shy away from competitive sports in favor of more personal athletic endeavors like running, swimming, and biking. I have competed in one triathlon and loved every second of it, yet am generally afraid of doing another. I keep training anyway.
I love books and movies with a more historical or fantasy theme, such as the Lord of the Rings (I totally loved it before it became popular), Dune, Hero, House of Flying Daggers (I'm a sucker for foreign films), Braveheart, the Patriot, etc.
I love enjoying calm afternoons and mornings, especially lying in my hammock on the back patio.
I do enjoy the occasional PC game, mostly ones like Rome: Total War in which I can build and maintains empires and conduct diplomacy. I've played WOW off and on but tend to get bored with it pretty easily.
I love to travel, I love architecture, I really enjoy Italian food, I am quite content to hang out in a coffee shop with friends, I love being a camp-counselor, I like writing, I like Cumbia (music) as well as certain stuff coming out of the middle east and India (again, music).
I love Rain. Heavy snows are awesome. Forests rock. Deserts can be ok. I am enthralled with ancient civilizations, and love to explore the fringes of written history.
I love God and love to worship in singing and praying.
I am interested in being a person that people respect, trust, and generally want to have around.
I am interested in having a family. My first son will be named Colin. If he has a twin brother I am toying with naming him Corin. I'm fun that way. =)
I was born in LA, grew up in Flagstaff, and have traveled to Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, and Great Britain through mission trips, family vacations, and study abroad experiences. I've been a born-again believer in Christ since I was 7, and God continues to be the driving force behind my desires and successes. I owe him everything, and I only hope to be able to live a life of service in response, hopefully affecting change and improvement in everyone I meet and everything I do.
